Brian Kakakaway Obituary

Brian Kakakaway passed away at the age of 45 years on April 14, 2018 in Yorkton, SK.

A traditional wake was held on Tuesday, April 17, 2018 from the Keeseekoose Chiefs Educational Complex.

A funeral mass was held on Wednesday, April 18, 2018 from St Philips Roman Catholic Church.

Interment followed at the St Philips Roman Catholic Cemetery. 


Brian was born to George and Sylvia Kakakaway on August 27th 1972.  He was the second youngest of the family.  He was a very influential in the family.  He touched many lives through the Nakawe culture and language. Brian was very involved in traditional gatherings and ceremonies.  He was employed at Keeseekoose Chiefs Education Center until his passing.
Brian enjoyed horsemanship with many of his colleagues.  He also enjoyed being chaperone during the summer and winter games.  Brian taught many of youth to jig and square dance and was still an active Firefighter for Saskatchewan environment.   He fought fires at Slave Lake Alberta in 1998, Hudson Bay in 2003, and the Lower Fishing Lake fire of 2015. He also did tree pruning and planting for Weyerhauser Canada until 2002.  He also enjoyed raising livestock such as cattle and chickens.   He had many other achievements and accomplishments.

Brian was predeceased by his Parents George and Sylvia Kakakaway, sister Lisa, and two brothers at infancy; Edwin and Vernon.

He was survived by his daughters Vanessa (Aaron), Tamara (Chevez), Brianna, who he loved, and Grandchildren; Kenzi, and Declan who he cherished.  His siblings; Meno (Nadine), Greg (Bonnie), Patrick, Allen (Deanna), Michael (Sylvia), Alex, and Loretta (Joseph).
