Fannie Slastukin

Our Dear Mother Fannie Slastukin entered eternal rest  at the age of 97 years on January 11, 2018,  one month short of her 98th year. The last few days of her life was spent at the Kamsack Nursing Home. She resided at the Eaglestone Lodge prior for the past six years.

Fannie is survived by her son, John Slastukin, daughters; Winnie Dubasoff & Marge Wonitowy, nine grandchildren, eleven great grandchildren and six great great grandchildren.

She was predeceased by her husband Fred , son Kenneth and daughter Kathleen Stasiuk, her siblings; brother, John (Marge) Vanin, sisters; Molly (Nick) Nahornove, Tena (Alex) Hoobanoff, great granddaughter Mandi Schwartz.

Fannie was born to a farming  community-attending Lister School nearby. She found the love of her life in Fred Slastukin marrying in 1938. They moved to their own homestead where they continued mixed farming. They eventually had five children with four surviving. Being a farmer’s was wife somewhat challenging in those years. She was a homemaker, gardener, seamstress, caregiver to the family and an excellent hostess. With the children leaving home, Fred insisted she get her driver’s licence, so she took her driver’s training in her 40’s and received her driver’s licence which was quite an accomplishment then as you did not see many woman driving at those times – that was a history maker.

Fannie was an active member of the Doukhobor Society and sang in the choir for many years, attending many religious functions over the years. She was very supportive and active in the community also being involved with the children over the years.

Fannie and Fred retired from farming in 1976 moving from Pelly to Kamsack. They had their home built having all the luxury and convenience farm homes did not have. She loved her brand new home and a new community. Their activities included fishing @ Madge Lake, joining the Doukhobor Prayer Home, making new friends, travelling to Eastern Canada, USA, Mexico and many trips made to visit their children and grandchildren @ Regina, Saskatoon, and the Okanagan Valley over the years.

Following her husband’s demise she sold their home and moved to Davis Towers and much later resided at Eaglestone Lodge for over six years.

*Fannies cousin and best friend Polly Strukoff grew up as neighbors on the farm, married boys from the area and lived their farming years as neighbors. Upon moving to Kamsack in retirement years, they lived a block apart - again as neighbors. After the demise of their husbands they once again became neighbors living next door to one another. Fannie moved to Eaglestone Lodge and before too long Polly moved in next door to Fannie – they have made a complete cycle – their lives touching one another all their lives.

Fannie will be greatly missed by family and friends. We were blessed to have you all these years.

As per Fannies request, a private family celebration of life and interment will be held @ a later date.
