June Joan Southwind (nee Bird) of Saskatoon and formerly of Keeseekoose First Nation passed away at the age of 77 years on June 21, 2018.
A traditional wake was held on Monday, June 25, 2018 from the Keeseekoose First Nation Band Hall.
A funeral service was held on Tuesday, June 26, 2018 also from the Keeseekoose First Nation Band Hall.
Interment was at the Keeseekoose First Nation Traditional Cemetery.
June, also known as Joan is survived by her four daughters; Lorna Smoke, Gloria Southwind, Beverly (Charles) Southwind and Brenda Southwind, ten grandchildren; Ashley, Kimberly, Tyler, Elroy Jr, Kyle, Louise, Nolan, Ryan, Sky and Trey, twelve great grandchildren; Sam, Benjamin, Blaize, Janessa, Chloe, Dayton, Kashton, Maven, Kaneyen, Elroy Ⅲ, Rochelle, Daniel and Elizabeth, sister; Beatrice Severight of Winnipeg, Mb, as well as numerous nieces, nephews and extended family.
June was predeceased by her parents; Edward and Daisy (nee Sabit) Bird, brothers; John, Winston and Henry Bird and John Sabit, children; Clara, Michael, Terrance and Wayne Southwind.
Joan was born on Fishing Lake Reserve on July 28, 1940. She grew up on Cote Reserve and then married Martin and moved to Keeseekoose Reserve. After leaving Saskatchewan she moved to Alberta, where she met and married Harry Dumais. She resided in Magrath for 25 years until his passing.
She loved spending time with her family and friends, visiting, camping, fishing, cooking and sewing as well as her pass time of puzzle books and reading.
She lived a full life and leaves her family with a lot of lessons and history. She was thankful for being blessed with her children, grandchildren and especially her great grandchildren.
She will be gratefully missed by her family.
