Laurine (Dolly) Quewezance Obituary

Laurine (Dolly) Laurine Thoreen Quewezance passed away at the age of 66 years on July 3, 2019 in Saskatoon,.SK.

A traditional wake was held on Friday, July 5, 2019  from the Keeseekoose Chiefs Educational Complex.

A funeral service was held on Saturday, July 6,l 2019 also from the Keeseekoose Chiefs Educational Complex.

Interment  followed at the Keeseekoose First Nation Traditional Cemetery.

Laurine was born on July 4, 1952 at Kamsack Saskatchewan and was raised by maternal grandparents Roy and Nellie Musqua on Keeseekoose First Nation. She attended schooling at St Philips Day school in Keeseekoose First Nation graduated grade 12 and furthered her education by convocating with a Social Work Degree from the First Nations University of Canada. Laurine was passionate about life and had a great love for all people. She worked selflessly in her career beginning her work at 16 years of age in administration at Kamsack hospital. She lived in Whitehorse Yukon and worked at the Kwanlitdun First Nation. Her years of service to the people continued when she returned home and worked for Ministry of Social Services In Yorkton and her home community of Keeseekoose First Nation as a Welfare Administrator. Her final years of human service work were with Sunrise Health Region as a Mental Health Therapist. Laurine was an advocate for injustice and stood for equality for all. Her petite stature would fool you until she spoke, that voice and her words touched many. She credited her upbringing and teachings to her Grandparents Late Roy and Nellie Musqua.  Laurine loved her First Nation Culture and Traditions traveling many miles to Powwows. Laurine had great expectations and she made you believe in yourself. Her children and grandchildren were her pride and joy and her life centered around them. Her children have committed their lives to carry on their mother’s legacy of compassion and advocacy for all.  Laurine was loved and respected by all she touched. We will all miss her big smile and warm loving hugs.

Laurine is predeceased by her mother Doris Musqua - Quewezance, her father Norman Shingoose and adopted father Johnny Quewezance. Her maternal grandparents Roy and Nellie(Brass) Musqua.

She leaves to mourn her passing her beloved husband William (Mike) Quewezance. Children: Nicole(Mike) Quewezance. Marjorie(Kevin) Quewezance, Cyril Quewezance. Grandchildren Skyler, Isaiah, Kreeden, Kreelynn, Mackenzie, Madison, Brooklynn and Emerson. She had great love for her enormous extended family she had many Aunties, Uncles, Cousins, Nieces, Nephews she cherished deeply.
