Alice Galye
It is with great sadness that the family of Alice Galye announces her passing on September 29, 2010 at the age of 83 years in Kamsack, SK. Alice was born on October 13, 1926 in Donwell, SK.
A funeral service was held Saturday, October 2, 2010 from the Chapel of Andrychuk Funeral Home in Kamsack with Fr. Patrick Powalinsky officiating. Interment followed at the Stornoway Orthodox Catholic Cemetery.
Alice was born at home on October 13, 1926 in the Donwell District to Andrew and Mary Korol (nee Makowsky). She was the second child and the second daughter of the six children of Andrew and Mary. Alice began her education at Bridok School and completed grades 11 and 12 at Yorkton Collegiate. In 1945, she completed a teaching course at the Saskatoon Normal School where she stayed at the Peter Mohyla Institute. From there, her teaching career took her to Greenwater School, Amisk School in Hudson Bay, Wisnia School near Mazeppa and Charkoff School in Wroxton. It was in Wroxton that Alice met a certain gentleman named Fred Galye.
On the morning of July 12, 1949, Alice was married to Fred at a home wedding which took place at her family farm in Donwell District. They lived on the family farm in Stornoway until 1964, where they moved to the new family farm south of Kamsack. After her husband, Fred passed away, Alice moved into the town of Kamsack in April of 1985. Here she was very active with the church and went to many garage sales. She enjoyed different hobbies such as reading, sewing, crocheting and gardening. She also briefly worked as a matron for the RCMP. In January 2006, she moved into a suite at Eaglestone Lodge. In July of 2006 Alice suffered a heart attack and subsequently moved to the assisted living section of Eaglestone Lodge. When her health deteriorated further, she moved into the Preeceville Nursing Home and later the Kamsack Nursing Home where she remained until her passing.
Alice is survived by her three children, son, Vernon (Marge), granddaughter Sheri (Steve Nikiforoff), great-granddaughter Kiera, all of Kamsack; son, Wayne (Kathie) of Kamsack, grandson Chad (Miranda) of Yorkton, granddaughter Ricki Jordison and Randy Redenbach, great-granddaughters Madison and Taiha of Moose Jaw, granddaughter Lyndsay (Cameron) McCarty, great-granddaughter Milah of Medicine Hat, granddaughter Kristin (Jordan) Bassett, great-grandson Bode of Camrose; daughter, Karen (Daniel) Michaud, grandsons Jeremie and Jean-Luc of North Battleford. She is also survived by sisters, Violet Lucash of Kamsack, Sonja Herter of Medicine Hat, Nellie Cudney of Vancouver Island, brother Taras (Dorothy) Korol of Canora, sister-in-law Sylvia Korol of Canora, brother-in-law John Galye of Wroxton and numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents, Andrew and Mary Korol; her husband, Fred; her brother, Zenovie and brothers-in-law, Pete Lucash, Melvin Herter and Wes Cudney.
