It is with a heavy heart that the family of Edward Kerluke announces his passing on June 1, 2025 in Kamsack, SK at the age of 87 years.
Edward Kerluke of Kamsack, Saskatchewan, passed away on June 1, 2025, at the age of 87 years. Ed was a hard-working, kind, caring man and touched the lives of many people during his life. His memory will live on in the lives of all those who knew him.
Ed was born on January 28, 1938, on a farm NW of Kamsack, Saskatchewan to parents Martha Prokopchuk and John Kerluke. He grew up on farms NW of Kamsack and near Veregin. Ed had three sisters and two brothers.
Ed met the love of his life, Gloria, initially while attending high school at the Kamsack Collegiate Institute. They started dating in 1957 and married on October 6, 1962, at the Ukrainian Catholic Church in Kamsack.
After briefly moving to Edmonton, Ed and Gloria returned to Kamsack where they settled and raised their family. Susan was born in 1967 and Kerri in 1972. Upon his initial return to Kamsack Ed enjoyed his work at the Kamsack Times as a typesetter. He became a business owner and started to manage Kam-Crete. In the early 1980’s Ed began overseeing Broda Construction’s quarry crushing operations for the railways and the mines. Ed worked in numerous quarries across BC, AB, SK, MB and Western ON and always had well-run, organized and efficient operations. Several men who worked for Ed stayed on his crew for many years because they enjoyed working with him. In the early 2000’s he retired.
During his retirement Ed played18 holes of golf every day at the Riverside Golf Course. He had an eye for landscaping and spent many hours adding rock beds and shrubs to their yard. There was never a weed seen in Ed and Gloria’s yard! Ed enjoyed going to the cabin at Madge Lake where he would relax on the deck and enjoy the view of the lake. Ed and Gloria also spent many days on the road traveling to see their children and grandchildren in various activities and events.
Ed was predeceased by his parents John and Martha, his sisters Lena and Evelyn, brother-in-law’s Cas Broda and Rudy Barabash and sister-in-law’s Marlene Kerluke and Lorraine Barabash.
Ed is survived by his loving wife of 63 years Gloria, daughters Susan (Bruce Wenstrom) and Kerri (Rudy Hausermann), grandchildren Natasha, Blake, Brooke, Kelsey, and Bryce, sister Maria Broda, brother Arnold (Tracy) and brother Dwayne (Trudie).
The family extends a special thank you to both the Yorkton and Kamsack Hospitals for providing Ed with exceptional care during his brief illness.
A private family internment will be held at Riverview Cemetery, Kamsack, at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Ed can be made to The Kidney Foundation of Canada.
