Elizabeth Kilmister Obituary

It is with great sadness that the family of Elizabeth Kilmister announces her passing on January 28, 2024 at Kamsack Hospital at 98 years of age, surrounded by loved ones.

Ellie is survived by her daughter; Maureen Vanin (Wally), grandchildren; Brent Vanin (Brittany), and Jason Vanin (Melina), daughter-in-law; Donna Kilmister, grandchildren, Kristyn Asplund (Gus), Brennan Kilmister (Camille), and great grandchildren, Scarlett and Blaire Asplund, Mila, Rowan, and Remi Kilmister, siblings; Victoria Tanton and Evelyn Banks, and numerous nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her husband Laurence Kilmister in November 1984, her son James in April 2016, siblings; Mary (Paul), John (Mary Anne), Stanley, Tony (Kay), Edward (Ann), Victor (Alyne), Jean (Jim), Nestor (Ilona), and brothers-in-law Ron Tanton and Jack Banks.

Ellie was born on December 18, 1925, in the Mohela District, SK to Josef and Anna (Stusick) Kindratsky, the family later moved to the farm north of Stenen where she completed high school. Ellie moved to Winnipeg in 1944 where she attended the Misericordia Hospital nursing school, graduating in 1947 as a registered nurse. While nursing in Grandview, she met Laurence, and they were married on July 6, 1950. They moved to Kamsack where she continued to nurse at Kamsack Union Hospital, retiring in 1985. Ellie and Laurence raised their two children on Miles Street and spent their summers at the cabin at Madge Lake. Ellie lived in her home for 63 years, after which she moved into Eaglestone Lodge.

Ellie was an avid gardener who loved her flowers, especially roses, and was an honorable lifetime member of the Kamsack Horticultural Society. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star and served with the Anglican Christian Women, as a member of the Holy Trinity Anglican Church. She enjoyed playing bridge and socializing with her friends. Her needlepoint, cross-stitch and crochet work were cherished as gifts. Ellie loved her time at Eaglestone where she was able to continue gardening and socializing with fellow residents and staff. She often remarked it as "being the best place for her".

The family would like to thank the staff of Eaglestone Lodge for the wonderful care they provided Ellie during her 7.5 years residency there. Also, to the staff of Kamsack Hospital for the care provided to Ellie during her last few days. We appreciate you all. A funeral service for Ellie Kilmister will be held Saturday, February 3, 2024, at Holy Trinity Anglican Church at 1:00 pm.
