Elsie Severson
Elsie. N. Severson – Passed away at the Royal University Hospital in Saskatoon on Thursday, December 2, 2010 at the age of 77.
Elsie was born on the farm in the district of St Phillips to Bill and Rosie Paluck on March 25, 1933. She grew up and was educated in Kamsack, Saskatchewan. She later worked in Kamsack and was transferred to Hudson Bay where she met her future husband Louis David Severson. On October 22, 1954 she married the love of her life at the United Church in Kamsack. In 1956 they moved to B.C. where they lived until they returned to Kamsack in 1959.
After they returned to Kamsack, Elsie's main priority was her husband and family. Raising her four rambunctious boys was no easy task, but she still found time to help Dave with the family plumbing business.
One of Elsie's passions was plants. Every spare inch of the family home was adorned with beautiful and unique plants and flowers. Another passion was painting. She had an incredible eye for beauty and also had the unique talent to transfer that beauty to a canvas, transforming it to a work of art. To this day many of her paintings are hanging in many different homes in many different places. She also loved to sew and cook and excelled at everything she did.
Elsie would tackle every challenge with a vengeance and once the challenge was conquered she would immediately move on to her next challenge. She was not one to sit idle for ant length of time. She lived her life to the fullest and always on her terms. If she had an opinion you would be aware of it no matter what your status in society was. Over the years Elsie adopted the open door policy in the family home. Basically anyone was welcome if they needed a place to stay or just to hang out, but you had to live by her rules and if you needed discipline you got it. Everyone always had a plate of food even if it was 3 AM. Many of these people call her Mom to this day.
Elsie died as she lived, on her own terms. She fought a difficult and courageous battle. She never felt sorry for herself or complained about her illness. She confronted it head on.
Elsie was predeceased by her parents Bill and Rosie Paluck and one son Ian David in 1979. She is lovingly remembered by her loving husband Dave and sons Darrel (Sarah) of Kamsack, Kerry (Kathy) of Armstrong B.C. and Sandy of Kamsack. Grandchildren Jeff and Amber Severson (Darrel and Sarah), Melissa, Meagan and David Severson (Kerry and Kathy) as well as her brother Eugene (Verna) Paluck of Calgary, Alberta and several aunties, uncles, nieces and nephews.
