George James Cherwenuk

April 20, 1945 ~ November 3, 2020 (age 75)


It is with great sadness the family of George James Cherwenuk, announces his passing on November 3rd, 2020, at the Kamsack Nursing Home at the age of 75 years.  George was born in Kamsack on April 20th, 1945, to Pauline (Kruchkowski) and John Cherwenuk.   George will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 56 years, Lynda (Thomas), and his children Kimberly Hausermann (Kurt) Pilot Butte, Judy Harris (Frank) St.Albert, and Steven Cherwenuk Estevan.  He will be fondly remembered by his three grandchildren Derek Hausermann, Carter Hausermann, and Jennifer Harris. He is survived by his brothers Peter (Angie) Kamsack, Alec (Rose) Edmonton, Mike (Judy) Saskatoon, and predeceased by his sister Jennie, and brother, Paul (Ann) Cherwenuk

He started working Aug 10, 1964 at IMC Mine in Esterhazy.  He pursued a post-secondary education at SIAST In Moose Jaw for an Instrumentation Certificate.  In 1973, George became owner of Gateway Enterprises. For the next 46 years, he became fondly known as, ‘Gateway George’.  He relished helping a customer to problem solve their vehicle mechanical challenges.  He has always taken pleasure in the social part of business and visiting with his customers, till closing his business and retiring Aug 10, 2019. 

George will be remembered as someone who was quick with a smile and a friendly ‘hello’.  He enjoyed visiting with his friends and family and was always there to help others in need.  In his spare time, he enjoyed curling, river fishing, and attending collector trade shows, as he was an avid collector.  He spent many enjoyable days at Madge Lake relaxing, chatting with friends, roasting hot dogs on the fire or fishing when the weather was good.  He loved animals, Christmas, desserts, and watching sports on TV.

We will be following Covid guidelines for funerals, everyone must wear a mask, use sanitization and maintain 6 feet distance.   Friends and family are welcome to attend a come and go viewing, to say farewell to George Friday Nov 6th at 7:00 – 8:00 pm at Andrychuk’s Funeral Home in Kamsack.   A small grave site service to celebrate George’s life will be held on Saturday, Nov 7th at 2:00 pm at the Kamsack Riverside Cemetery with Gwen Reilkoff presiding.  Covid unfortunately does not allow a gathering after the graveside service.
