Joan Tataryn Obituary

Joan Elizabeth Tataryn (Oesch) of Kamsack, Saskatchewan, passed away at the age of 80 years, on September 8, 2024. Her memories will live on in the lives of all those she knew.

Joan was born on August 7, 1944 in Palo, Saskatchewan to parents Mary Oesch (Bosnell) and Allan Ezra Oesch. She grew up in Biggar, Saskatchewan, with her sister and seven brothers.

Joan met Eugene Tataryn in Saskatoon, when Eugene was out driving and saw her waiting for a bus going to a Roy Orbison concert. He turned his car around when he saw his cousin and later went on a date with Joan that had been arranged by his cousin. They married February 6, 1965.

In the earlier years of Joan and Eugene’s life together, they lived in Saskatoon, where Dwayne was born on September 29, 1965, and Sheldon was born on October 12, 1966. In 1967, they moved to St Catharines Ontario, where Brad was born January 21, 1974. They moved to Thunder Bay, Ontario in 1981 and then Eugene’s work transferred them back to Saskatoon in 1985.

From 1987 until 2008, Joan was a well-known daycare provider in Saskatoon, and was lovingly known to many as Grandma Joanie. Joan and Eugene retired to Kamsack in 2013.

Joan was predeceased by her parents Allan and Mary, and her brothers Bill, Edwin, Alvin, Raymond, Theodore and Ernest, her mother-in-law Lily, Father-in-law Fred and brother-in-laws Augustin and Mike Soloway.

She is survived by her loving husband Eugene, sister Dorothy McCarty (Oesch), sister-in-law Emily Solowey, sister-in-law Vicki (Walter) Lozinski, brother-in-law Ernest (Connie) Tataryn, her children Dwayne (Francine), Sheldon (Penny), Brad (Hollie) and grandchildren Dillon, Rachel, Logan and Carter.

A special thank you to the Kamsack Nursing Home staff and caregivers for providing Joan with loving care and attention since 2019.

In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Joan can be made to the Kamsack District Nursing Home and /or The Auxiliary Nursing Home Ladies.
