Leonard Brown

Passed away peacefully on June 4, 2011 at the Norquay Personal Care Home. A graveside service was held on Friday, June 10, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. at the Greenwood Cemetery (west of Pelly).
Memorial donations in Leonard’s memory may be made to the Pelly Legion.
Leonard was born in Regina, SK. On Oct 19, 1920 to Gordon & Mabel (nee Culbertson) Brown. He was the 2nd oldest of 12 children. He grew up with 8 brothers and 3 sisters and attended school at Alida, SK.
Early in his life he enlisted in the Canadian Armed Forces, and saw active service over seas inWW2. There he met the love of his life and married Sheila Cornford, May 12, 1945 in St Leonard's On Sea, East Sussex, and England. After discharge from the Army, Leonard lived the majority of his life in England. He worked as a groundskeeper/ gardener - he loved gardening! On retirement Leonard & Sheila moved back to Canada. He was a long-standing member of the Royal Canadian Legion - this summer he was to receive a life time membership. He also enjoyed socializing and playing cards, and was a member of the Pelly Happy Hearts for many years.
Leonard was a resident of Norquay Health Centre since 2004. He and his family were always grateful for the diligent and compassionate care he received.
Leonard was predeceased by his loving wife of 58 years, Sheila; his parents Gordon and Mabel Brown; his brothers Garnet, Walter and Arthur; and his sisters Mary Doughty, and Doreen Cook. Leonard is survived by his son Trevor (Brenda) of England, and daughter Valerie of Australia, 4 grandchildren, and 3 great-grandchildren; as well as his sister Cora Stobee of Pelly, 5 brothers: Cecil of Kamloops, Roy (Toni) of Kamloops, Tom (Edna) of Pelly, Joe (Mary) of Pelly, and Allan of Pelly; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
