Madeline Nystrom was born June 21, 1924 and passed away peacefully on June 25, 2021 in N.H.C with family be her side.
Madeline was born to Leonard and Theresa Berkvens in Valpoy, Manitoba. After meeting the love of her life, Birtle Nystrom in Protage la Prairie, MB they married in Ste. Rose du Lac, Manitoba on April 16, 1946. They took up farming north of Pelly, SK where they worked the fields, garden and beautiful flowers together. Their home was always a welcome place for all family, friends, neighbors and many strangers. The nieces and nephews all have many memories of the tree house card games of Kings in the Corner. Madeline was always such a patient and kind lady (she had to be with all the pranks Birtle played). There was always food on the table, made by a wonderful cook and baker, for everyone who stopped in. In their spare time they went hunting, fishing and visited family and friends. Their special place was White Fish Lake where they camped and fished as often as possible. After retiring from farming in 1993 they moved to Pelly. Sadly in 2006 Madeline lost her loving husband, Birtle. In 2013 Madeline decided to sell her home and move to Norquay to be near family as her health wasn’t good. After a year in Norquay she decided to move to Eaglestone Lodge in Kamsack due to declining health, where she lived until 2021. She then moved back to Norquay Health Centre.
Madeline was predeceased by her loving husband, Birtle; her parents, Leonard and Theresa; her brothers, Vital, Albert and Freddie; sisters, Laura, Lilly and Isabelle. Her brothers in law, Richard and Stanley, John, Milton, Clarence and Richard; her sisters in law, Jean, Joyce and Sabasta. She leaves to mourn her passing, sisters, Mary and Florence and sister in law, Ivy and many nieces, nephews and friends.
A family burial will be held at a later date. Anyone wanting to make a donation in Madeline’s memory may be made to Eaglestone Lodge, Kamsack, SK or Norquay Health Centre Norquay, SK.
