Marion Leis Obituary

Mirium Esther (Pfeifer) Leis, or Marion, as she was known, was born Dec 6, 1932 in the Runnymede area, to Henry and Olga (Schilke) Pfeifer.

She was the third eldest child of ten.  She grew up helping out in the household and looking after younger siblings.

Marion attended several country schools as the family moved.  Shamrock, Makaroff, and then Irondale where she completed grade 8.  She continued to live at home, helping out with the household.  She tried waitressing for a while at a café in Kamsack.

In 1958 she married Fredric Leis and moved to the farm.  They soon started a family and raised four children; Marty, Sally, Velvet, and Arlene.  A highlight was building a new home in 1972.  She had a large garden and enjoyed mowing the grass.  She liked to be creative and had many hobbies over the years.  Including: baking, sewing, painting, liquid embroidery, ceramics, macramé, and whatever craft was being done at the time.  She was also a good cook and served many meals to the farm hands.  During the summer months picnics and wiener roasts were enjoyed as well.

In 1994 they retired to Kamsack.  Fred passed away in 1995.  Sally kept her company and they continued on in Kamsack.  Here she enjoyed visiting with church ladies and going to the Dollar Store for coffee, often taking along fresh baking.

Sally passed away in 2005 and in 2009 Marion moved to Fisher Court in Yorkton.  Here she made new friends and enjoyed going for walks, coffee, and shopping.  When her health started to decline a year ago she moved to Skinner unit at the Yorkton & District Nursing Home, where she passed away Nov 14, 2019.

Marion was predeceased by: her parents Henry and Olga (Schilke) Pfeifer, her husband Fredric Leis, her daughter Sally Leis, her brothers; Martin Pfeifer, Richard Pfeifer, Stanley Pfeifer, and Rudy Pfeifer, sister, Florence Leis, and sister-in-law Marie Pfeifer.

She leaves to cherish her memory: her brothers Leo (Joey) Pfeifer, Alan Pfeifer, and Doug (Bev) Pfeifer, sister Annette (Ron) Guenther, brother-in-law Jack Leis, sisters-in-law; Elaine Pfeifer, Dorothy Pfeifer, and Alice Bates.  Her children: Marty and Carol Leis, Velvet and John Dueck, Arlene and Wayne Neufeld, grandchildren; Amanda Leis, Tyler Leis and Amanda, Josh Leis and Meranda, Bethany and Travis Fuller, Carlie and Alex Redwood, great grandchildren; Lexi Leis and Jax Leis, as well as many other relatives on Fred’s side, nieces, nephews, and other extended family.

A funeral service was held on Monday, November 18, 2019 from the chapel of Andrychuk Funeral Home.
