His family moved to live and farm in the Bear Stream District in 1930 when Philip was 9 years old. He later met and married his love and lifetime companion, Mary. They were married on November 23, 1944. They purchased the homestead, built a house and proceeded to break the land with horses and hand tools. Philip and Mary worked tremendously hard at building their home and life together. In the process they were blessed with four children: Louis, Dennis, Phylis & Lyle. Philip worked long and hard to fulfill the needs of his family and create a loving home and life for them.
While farming was his mainstay in the summer, in the winter he turned to his real passion: trapping. Throughout his trapping career he received many awards and recognition for his skills in both trapping and the preparation of his pelts.
