Tony Wonitowy
“Steve” Tony Wonitowy of Kamsack, SK, passed away Thursday, April 22, 2010 at Kamsack Union Hospital, age 77 years.
Tony was born Februry 17, 1933 on the family farm in the RM of Calder where he resided for his entire life, with a brief pause from 1978-88 when the family built a house and lived in Kamsack. He was the only son and youngest child of Francis (Winitski) and Steve Wonitowy. Tony attended Poplar Point School and later took over the family farm. In October, 1965 Tony married Pat Manchuk. They were blessed with two children, Anna and Jaime.
Tony loved farming and enjoyed his life on the farm until retiring in 2005. Over the years the farm evolved from a mixed operation of cattle, pigs, chickens and grain to a grain only operation. There was never a bad time to go check the crops, to talk about the weather or discuss what to plant in the spring.
Tony curled for many years and in the past few years took up golfing. Tony had also belonged to the Kamsack Lions and the Kamsack Elks. These were enjoyable activities but were also viewed as opportunities to go to town, have coffee and a social visit with the guys. He also liked to watch the news and commentate on politics and world events.
Tony passed away peacefully after a short and sudden battle with cancer. He was taken too soon after the passing of Pat in August, 2009.
Tony was predeceased by his wife Pat (2009), father Steve (1958), mother Francis (1984), sister Margaret Sidlar (1991), sister Anne Yaworsky (2003) and sister Katie Schab (2006).
Tony is survived by his daughter Anna (Len) Lorenz, son Jaime Wonitowy, sisters, Mary Wintonyk (Saltcoats), Eleanor Klingbyle, Emily Soroka and Susan Fox all of Ontario.
If friends so desire, donations may be made in Tony's memory to the Kamsack Hospital – Palliative Care Unit.
