Welcome to the memorial page for

Vera Barisoff

July 23, 1920

Vera Barisoff

passed away at the age of 94 years on Wednesday, February 18, 2015 at the Kamsack Union Hospital.
As per Vera’s wishes private funeral service and interment were held.
Vera was born July 23, 1920, in the Fort Pelly area in Saskatchewan to Wasyl W. and Grace (nee Kolensinkoff) Konkin. Vera grew up on the family farm and attended school at Fort Pelly. After her schooling, her first job was at the Star Cafe in Kamsack, SK. On March 9, 1942, Vera married George Michael Barisoff and they had two children, Florence and Tom. After starting their family Vera had stayed home to raise her children, and after they were grown she returned to work at the local bakery until her retirement.
Vera had many pastimes; she was a very good cook and you would often find her in the kitchen cooking her family favorite soup’s, borscht or pyrizhky. The ingredients for her recipe’s would come mostly from her own garden, which she cared for all on her own. Vera took such pride in caring for her garden which was of considerable size, and she continued to do so up until a couple of years ago. She also enjoyed crocheting and knitting, one of her favorite things to knit was mittens and socks for her grandchildren which they loved to wear. Vera somehow found even more time in her already full life to sew and create beautiful quilts. And when close friends and neighbours would call or stop by it would only take a minute for coffee to be made.
Vera had a great love of animals. Every morning Vera would get up and feed the birds outside and often you would find her watching them from the window. Then inside the Barisoff house for many years, you would hear the chirp of Tootsie and Sweetie and for a time Suzie, they were beautiful budgie birds that Vera doted on, spoiled and talked with all day long. Then one day Sandy, an adorable abandoned cat, appeared on the doorstep and in a heartbeat became part of the family. It took no time at all for Sandy as well to be doted on and spoiled by Vera.
Vera’s son would bring her every Saturday into Yorkton so her daughter could take her grocery shopping. But it was her weekly ritual of going to her favorite restaurant for her ‘pecan bun’ is what truly made her the happiest.
Vera Barisoff (nee Konkin) is predeceased by her parents, Wasyl W. and Grace (nee Kolensinkoff) Konkin, and her husband George Michael Barisoff. She is survived by her son, Tom Barisoff of Kamsack, SK., her daughter, Florence Halldorson of Yorkton, SK., her two grandchildren; Douglas (Bre) Halldorson of Red Deer, AB., and Deborah (Cam) Koch of Yorkton, SK., and two great-grandchildren Amy Halldorson of Red Deer, AB., and Jillyn Halldorson of Red Deer, AB.
If friends so desire, donations in Vera’s memory may be made to any branch of the SPCA.
