The family of the late Walter Alex Rezansoff of Kamsack, Sk is saddened to announce his passing on December 24, 2023 at the age of 91 years.
Walter was born December 23, 1932 in the village of Veregin, Sk to Alex J. and Annie Rezansoff. His father was a farmer and the owner of Rezansoff's General store in Cote. When Walter was a a young boy, he lost his thumbs and two fingers when he a friend discovered dynamite caps that were sold at his father's store. He attended the Silver Creek School near Cote .Walter met his soulmate Olga Berezowski at a dance in Kamsack. Walter and Olga were married on October 4, 1953 in Kamsack.
Walter worked hard for his family. He hauled fuel for the NPC in Kamsack. later he worked as an elevator agent for the National Grain Company. This job required him to transfer often and move his family to work in several different communities in Manitoba and Saskatchewan. Walter and his family returned to Kamsack in 1965, where he delivered fuel for the Kamsack Coop gas station. From there he and Olga started their own business, The Royalite Bulk Fuel Station in Kamsack. In the early 70's, Walter and Olga moved out to the country near Cote. There they operated a grain farm, raised cattle and a few chickens. For a short time, they looked after his brother's Lawrence horse Nickel who danced whenever he heard music. After selling the farm in early 2000's, Walter and Olga moved back to Kamsack to enjoy their retirement. Walter liked keeping busy. He operated the combine for the Gardner Brothers during harvest. Both he and Olga drove for Todd's in Kamsack and Swan River. Walter and Olga looked forward to spending summers at their trailer at the Lake of the Prairies. Throughout their lives, they enjoyed travelling and cherished visits with family, friends and neighbors.
Walter was a dedicated member of the Kamsack community. He was a long standing, active member of the Elks Lodge and the Masonic Lodge in Kamsack. Walter served on the Board of the Kamsack Credit Union. Later he volunteered at the Kamsack Powerhouse Museum. He enjoyed curling and looked forward to the bonspiels.
Walter is survived by his daughters; Linda Barisoff (Stan) and their children, Jamey and Polly-Ann (Baydon) Rowe, Brenda Rezansoff and her sons Dean Eisner (Chantelle), Nicholas Eisner (Kelly) and Jonathon Derworiz, Cheryle Cain and her daughter Casidy, his brother Alex Rezansoff (Ella), his great grandchildren; George, Maria, Ruby, Wyatt, Travis, Jager, Logan, Ryker and Sawyer, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Walter is predeceased by his wife; Olga, his parents; Alex and Annie Rezansoff, siblings; Harold (Sophie) Rezansoff, Lawrence (Elsie) Rezansoff, MaryAnn (George) Edwards and Luba (Peter) Chubey.
The celebration of Life for Walter will be held Sunday, January 14, 2024 at the Kamsack Legion Hall at 2:00 pm.
