Welcome to the memorial page for

Walter Vanin

November 1, 1924

Walter Vanin

Walter E Vanin was born Nov 1,1924 in the Podolia District to Eli and Tania Vanin. Walter was the youngest of 5 children, Dora, Polly, Fred and Nick.
Walter grew up in the Podolia School District and got his education there. He quit school after grade eight and went to work for local farmers.
He eventually made his way to Linden Valley School District met Anna. He would travel to court Anna on his trusty bike.
On Dec 10,1943 Walter and Anna were married and had four children. Pat,Carl, Wally and Irene.
Walter and Anna farmed in the Arran District for 15 years, movimg to Kamsack to work in Paul’s Tire shop, then to work in construction, carpentry, and as a mechanic. Walter was called upon by the neighbors to fix a wide variety of items. A man of many talents, he took pride in his work. He hed a real talent for fixing everything. If you could break it he could pretty well fix it.
Walter also enjoyed hunting, fishing and curling. Although he was a mighty hunter, he was faint of heart if he saw his own blood. As a couple they enjoyed picking berries, having fruit to take home was great but the trip was also a lot of fun!
For many years Walter was an active member of the Elks.
Walter and Anna welcomed everyone in there home with plenty of food and drink. He enjoyed playing cards and games with his Grandchildren. The grandkids enjoyed teasing Grandpa about his chicken legs whenever he put on shorts. Always for there eyes only!
The full candy dishes were for the grandchildren and company… but we know how big of a sweet tooth Grandpa had BECAUSE some of us inherited it!
Once Walter and Anna sold the farm they continued to make many trips AG REPing. Sometimes they got stuck, but they always knew where, even if none of the rest of us did!
He loved to watch hockey, the Blue Jays, and any rodeo on tv.
Visiting with us all was something he really enjoyed. “Just between you,me and the fence post” or “just one for the road” were just some of his unique sayings. In some of these conversations he would often say “get me a paper and pencil” and then proceed to draw a map of some obscure part of the country with names, and history, etc. that could rival the RM map.
We would like to thank you all for sharing this time with us, his family.
